Methods selected for the individual patient
Ultrasound
A non-invasive assessment of abdominal organs and soft tissues, useful for symptoms involving, among others, the digestive and urinary systems.
X-ray
Imaging of bones, joints and the chest, used to assess injuries, support orthopaedic diagnostics and evaluate selected organs.
Endoscopy
Imaging the inside of selected organs and passages, allowing a more detailed assessment of lesions and, when indicated, collection of samples for testing.
Laboratory tests
A complete blood count and other laboratory tests support assessment of the patient’s general condition, detection of inflammation and monitoring of treatment.
Echocardiography
An ultrasound examination of the heart that assesses its structure, valve function and blood flow.
Before the examination
How should the patient be prepared for an examination?
Select the planned examination and review the key guidance. Final instructions must always be confirmed by the veterinarian or reception team because they depend on the patient’s species, age, chronic conditions, medication and current state.
- Abdominal ultrasoundPreparation may include withholding food and keeping the urinary bladder full. Do not fast young, chronically ill or exotic patients without individual instructions.
- Blood testsSome blood tests require fasting and others do not. Do not stop medication on your own; bring a medication list, the times of the most recent doses and previous results.
- Urine testingConfirm whether the sample should be collected at home or at the clinic. Collect a home sample in a clean, sealed container, record the collection time and deliver it promptly as instructed.
- Faecal testingPrepare a fresh sample in a clean, sealed container without litter or soil. Ask how much is needed and whether samples should be collected on one or several days.
- X-rayRemove metal accessories from the area being examined and bring previous images or reports. If sedation may be required, you will receive separate feeding and medication instructions.
- Echocardiography, ECG and blood pressureThey usually do not require fasting. Avoid intense exercise before the visit, bring a medication list and do not alter medication without consulting the veterinarian.
- Endoscopy, sedation or anaesthesiaThey require individual assessment and precise instructions about food, water and medication. Follow only the instructions issued for the specific patient.
- Records and safe transportBring the health record, previous results and a medication list. Keep dogs on a lead and transport cats or small animals in a secure carrier.
